A surprise head coaching role just opened in the NFC West

The Seattle Seahawks are expected to move on from long-time head coach Pete Carroll, according to reports. This is a somewhat surprising move and will result in the only expected head coaching vacancy in the NFC West moving into the 2024 offseason. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter:

A shocker in Seattle: Pete Carroll is expected to be out as the Seahawks head coach, per sources. He still could remain in the organization, but not as the head coach. pic.twitter.com/fh4Jo8oMlk

Carroll, hired by the Seahawks in 2010, was the longest tenured head coach in the NFC West ahead of Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan who joined the division in 2017.
